With the state government of Telangana taking its own sweet time to form a full-fledged state pharmacy council, the recently passed out B.Pharmacy, M.Pharmacy and Pharm D graduates who are seeking to apply for government jobs as pharmacists in Telangana have been adversely impacted as there are no registrations and renewals being done due to lack of a proper council for the state.
Recently, the Telangana Public Service Commission had released a notification for the appointment of 238 pharmacists’ posts in various government hospitals. For these posts, the government gives priority to only those pharmacy candidates who are local residents of Telangana and should have been registered in Telangana Pharmacy Council, while others will be considered as non-locals and will be given less priority.
However, even though it has been more than 3 and half years since the formation of new state of Telangana, the state government has been moving at a snail’s pace to form a new council for the state. Even though earlier the Health Minister of Telangana Dr. Laxma Reddy had assured that all necessary steps will be taken for the immediate formation of Pharmacy Council for the state, all his promises have been confined only to paper and nothing concrete has been done on the ground.
“As per the Pharmacy Council Act, two years back a pharmacy tribunal was formed and it has been left where it is and nothing has been gone further to form a complete Council for the state. Because of this, majority students who have passed B. Pharmacy and M. Pharmacy are forced to approach the Andhra Pradesh Pharmacy Council for registrations, but there also, the APPC is taking its own time to issue the registration certificates. And by the time the students get their registration certificates, the last date for applying for the jobs in TSPSC will already be closed. Because of this, the pharmacy students in Telangana are suffering badly as they are losing the opportunity to apply for the recently announced pharmacists posts. Therefore, we immediately demand the state government to complete the process of formation of Telangana Pharmacy Council and rescue the pharmacy students in the state,” said Sanjay Reddy, president of Telangana Pharmacy Association.
Recently, the Telangana Public Service commission had released a notification to fill 238 Pharmacy Grade-2 posts in the state and seeking online applications from the pharmacy students in the state from 29th January and will be closed on 28th February. However, with thousands of pharmacy students not able to get themselves registered at the TSPC due to its delay in its formation they are approaching the APPC for registrations in Guntur district and they have lost all the hopes to apply for the Government jobs as the APPC is also taking its own time to issue the registration certificates.
“Earlier APPC operations of registrations and renewals used to function in Hyderabad. However, it’s been more than 6 months the AP government has shifted its pharmacy council to Guntur. The Telangana students are now forced to approach the APPC for registrations, because of the apathy of the Telangana Government’s delay in the formation of a new council. We have lost all our hopes to apply for the pharmacists posts this year and have to wait for the next notification,” observed Shankar, recently passed out B. Pharmacy student.
